Located 25 miles east of Manhattan and sitting atop a 120-foot bluff on the North Shore of Long Island, Sea Cliff is nestled along the shoreline of Long Island’s renowned “Gold Coast.” At only one square mile, Sea Cliff boasts its own beach, 16 neighborhood parks, and also borders the Harry Tappen Beach – a Town of Oyster Bay beach featuring 500 feet of shoreline. The Village’s Memorial Park, located at the intersection of Prospect and Sea Cliff Avenues, provides breathtaking views of Hempstead Harbor, Long Island Sound, and the New York and Connecticut shorelines.

The Village of Sea Cliff Recently Completed Updating Our Comprehensive Plan

New York State recommends that municipalities update their Comprehensive Plans on a regular basis, to properly identify changes and trends that the community is undergoing, as well as develop a shared vision and implementation path for the future of the Village.

A Comprehensive Plan is a long range policy document for the Village. It provides goals and recommendations for a sustainable future Sea Cliff.

Mayor Villafane's Recap of the Past Fiscal Year

It warmed my heart to see so many familiar faces at our Annual Organizational Meeting on April 1st. It is my yearly opportunity chance to have all of you, our amazing volunteers, gathered in one place. You are the backbone of our community, the ones who truly make Sea Cliff the "Volunteer Village."  Thank you for the time you take away from your families to dedicate yourselves to our community.

While she chose not to serve another term, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible service of Trustee Tannaz Balooch.  Her dedication and fresh perspective will be missed, but I have no doubt we will see her back on this stage someday.  I would also like to extend warm welcome to our new Trustee, George Williams, who I know will be a valuable asset!

This past year has been a whirlwind of progress, and I would like to share some highlights with you.  Remember that Long-Range Plan we worked so hard on?  Well, it is paying off! Because of that plan, we secured grants for crucial projects like zoning code updates and road safety assessments.  These grants would not have been possible without your support in finalizing the plan.

We have also seen significant infrastructure improvements.  Over 1.5 miles of roads were completely repaved (that amounts to 3.78 million pounds of fresh asphalt), and we are not stopping there.  More road restoration, curb and sidewalk refurbishments are planned for the coming year.  Plus, remember those eco-friendly new LED streetlights?  While a few needed adjusting, the program is a success, and we are already seeing reduced electricity bills not to mention the 180,000-kWh reduction in annual energy use.

Sea Cliff Avenue has become a hub of female entrepreneurship!  A recent article even highlighted three phenomenal business owners – Graciela Bustos, Kathleen DiResta, and Dana Baron.  They, along with nearly 20 other women-owned businesses, are not only contributing to our economy but also embodying the spirit of our community.

We celebrated together at museums, concerts in the park, and art shows.  We even learned how to watercolor!  New programs like online bill pay and a dedicated senior outreach worker are making life easier for many residents.  And of course, we are gearing up for the annual baseball parade and opening day – a true tradition!

However, I cannot sugarcoat it – inflation and rising costs are hitting everyone hard, including our village.  We continue to see increased costs due to supply chain issues and huge increased insurance expenses, all while facing a state-imposed property tax cap.  The Board and staff are working tirelessly to build a realistic budget that maintains essential services, manages important projects, and anticipates future expenses.  It is a challenge, but we are doing all we can to adhere to the 2% tax cap.

Looking ahead, the Board will continue its mission to deliver exceptional services at an affordable price.  We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers, staff, and board members.  Together, we make Sea Cliff a great place to live!

Sanitation and Recycling

Schedule

• Monday & Thursday for properties north of Glen Avenue
• Tuesday and Friday for properties south of Glen Avenue
• Recyclables are picked up curbside throughout the entire Village every Wednesday except during some holiday weeks (see holiday garbage schedule).

PLEASE: In order to avoid injuries, your sanitation workers cannot lift cans that are over 32-gallons in size or 75 pounds in weight. Oversize garbage cans are not permitted and Notices of Violation will be issued for their use.

We utilize facilities that accommodate single-stream recycling which means all materials to be recycled can be put in the same container. Sanitation crews will pick up paper, cardboard, glass, plastic & cans from containers placed at curbside. Paper does not have to be bundled; however, it should be placed in a manner that does not allow it to blow around.  Cardboard boxes do not need to be crushed; boxes may be placed inside other boxes.  Rinse out glass, plastic and tin cans prior to placing these items in the container to prevent rodent infestation and to avoid contaminating the recycling load. All recycling must be free of regular garbage or it will not be taken.
